The Santa Cruz County Provisional Community College District’s staff takes care of administrative, operations and support roles to ensure students have the best experience. Working with our partners, Pima Community College and University of Arizona Nogales, we recruit the region’s best faculty to prepare courses and teach courses to students.

Meet Our Staff.

The Santa Cruz Center’s staff takes on a leadership role in managing the physical facilities, building relationships with the community and ensuring learning is student-directed. 

Greg Lucero, Director of Strategic Initiatives

Greg has over 39 years senior level management experience working within corporations, at various levels of governments (local, state, federal), and with non-governmental organizations. He has served as staff to a US Senator, Congressman, Governor, and City Council Members. Additionally, he has held elected office as the Vice Mayor and Council Member for the City of Nogales, President of the Santa Cruz County Provisional Community College Governing Board, and previously served as a member of the Nogales Unified School District Governing Board.

Georgina Montiel Tavera, Finance & Operations Manager

Georgina was born in Hermosillo, Sonora, Mexico and moved to Nogales at a young age, where she has lived proudly most of her life. She graduated from the University of Arizona with a double major in Finance and Accounting, later received an MBA from the University of Phoenix. Georgina has worked as a Cost Accountant for several years in the Maquiladora industry before becoming a financial analyst overseeing US and Mexican books. After starting a small family business and raising three boys, she returned to the accounting field, managing the finances and daily operations of the Santa Cruz County Provisional Community College.

Alejandro Alvarez, Building Security & Maintenance TEchnician

Alejandro was born in Nogales, Arizona. He has worked for the Nogales Police Department. U.S. Customs, and Nogales Unified School District. He has over 28 years of security experience and over 6 years of maintenance experience. Alvarez is committed to the safety of students and staff, serving his community to make a difference to the younger generation of the Santa Cruz County Provisional Community College.

Maria Barragan, Custodian

Maria Barragan has 10 years of dedicated service with the Santa Cruz Center. For those 10 years she’s been treated with nothing but respect and is happy to be a part of this tremendous work environment. She’s responsible for maintaining the cleanliness and order of the building by performing routine cleaning tasks such as sweeping, mopping, vacuuming, emptying trash, and sanitizing surfaces, while also ensuring proper upkeep and demonstrating a strong work ethic and attention to detail to provide a clean and welcoming environment.

Daniel Ali Gutierrez, Student Worker

Daniel Ali Gutierrez is a first-generation college student currently wrapping up at Pima so that he can transfer back to the University of Arizona and pursue a degree in Education. He’s very grateful to be employed at the Santa Cruz Center where he gets to work in an environment that is suited to him and his skills. Working here allows Daniel to continue advancing in his educational career while  constantly learning new things and making new experiences. He feels he couldn’t be luckier to be part of the Santa Cruz Center.

Andres Galaviz, Student Worker

Andres Galaviz is a student worker who’s ready to help at Santa Cruz Center! Some of his personal goals include finishing his degree and basics to move forward into his career of administration of justice. Through his experience working and studying at the center, he has had the opportunity to grow mentally and expand his knowledge. He credits his work at the Center in helping him to discover a world of opportunities from the people, the new friendships, the knowledge acquired and the new experiences that he hopes will always stay with him his entire life.

Denissa Peiro, Student Worker

Denissa Peiro is a student worker who is studying Administration of Justice at Pima Community College. She’s grateful to be working at Santa Cruz Center, as it has not only provided her with valuable work experience but also helped her grow both personally and professionally. The opportunity to engage with the Center’s supportive community has inspired her to pursue her academic and career goals with even greater determination. In the future, Denissa plans to transfer to the University of Arizona to continue her studies and further develop the skills necessary to make a meaningful impact in the field of justice. Working at the Center has made her a better person, strengthening her dedication, work ethic, and passion for helping others.
