The Santa Cruz County Provisional Community College District’s faculty provides instruction to students at the Santa Cruz Center. Drawing fomr the region’s human assets, all faculty have achieved at least a Master’s degree and are proficient in their careers.

Meet The Pima Community College Faculty.
The Santa Cruz Center’s faculty focuses on teaching and student assistance, developing curriculum, degree requirements, and other aspects of student learning.

Elysse C Beach
EDU 202 Intro to Exceptional Learner & EDU 206 Relationships in Class Setting
Elysse Beach has been an elementary school teacher since 2014 and brings with her a variety of experiences working with early childhood, and more recently, higher education. She holds a bachelor’s degree in Education with endorsements in SEI and Early Childhood Education from Northern Arizona University, and a master’s degree in Curriculum and Instruction from Arizona State University. She currently teaches 3rd grade at a local elementary school in addition to teaching Education courses at Pima Community College.

Juan Balderas
CIS 119 Network Essentials, CIS 188 Scripting for Automation & CIS 227 Cyber Law and Ethics
Juan Balderas teaches the CIS program and brings over 20 years of experience in the Information Technology industry, specializing in data centers and IT infrastructure. He currently serves as the Chief Information Officer (CIO) for Santa Cruz County, leading a team responsible for IT systems, architecture, data governance, IT risk management, cybersecurity, and IT transformations. Juan holds a BS in Management Information Systems (MIS) from Pacific Union College and a Master of Business Administration (MBA) from the Eller College of Management at the University of Arizona.

David Lee Bentley

David Bentley received a BSc. degree in Bacteriology and Public Health from Washington State University in 1972 and a MSc. in Zoology from Washington State University in 1982. Dave moved to Arizona, taking a position at The University of Arizona, serving first as a manager from 1982-1998 and later on faculty as director in the Division of Biotechnology, Imaging Facility. In 2009, Dave Joined Boeckeler Instruments Inc., in Tucson as an Applications Scientist, designing, building, repairing, and quality controlling microscopy equipment,

Manuel O. Carrillo
BUS 151 Mathematics of Business & MAT 097 Intermediate Algebra
Manuel O. Carrillo is a graduate of Northern Arizona University, where he received a Master’s in Educational Leadership and the University of Arizona, where he received a Bachelor’s degree and a Master’s of Business Administration. Manuel O. Carrillo has over 22 years of leadership and management experience in business and higher education as an adjunct faculty for Education, Business and developmental math.

Juanita Condit
REA 091 Reading Improvement
Juanita Condit has a BA in Elementary Education and a MA in Language, Reading and Culture. Both degrees are from University of Arizona. She has also earned additional endorsements in Bilingual Education, Early Childhood Development, Student Mentoring, English as a Second Language, and Reading. She has the Arizona Standard Professional Principal K-12 Certification. Besides being an Adjunct Professor with Pima Community College, she has worked with University of Arizona and Tucson Unified School District.

Mathias Düwel
ART 110 Drawing I
Born in Berlin, Germany, Matthias Düwel received his MFA from the Universität der Künste Berlin in 1983. The following year, he was awarded a German Academic Exchange Service artist fellowship to live in NYC. After 20 years of living in NYC and 6 years of teaching at Parsons School of Design, Düwel moved to Arizona. In 2005, he joined the full-time faculty of PCC’s Arts Division. In addition to pursuing a full-time visual arts, Düwel also makes electronic music under the moniker GrauBlau.

Alicia Fiandaca
ART 105 Exploring Art/Visual Culture
After earning her Bachelor’s Degree, Art Teacher Alicia Fiandaca worked on an archaeological excavation in Italy for five seasons, inspiring her to move to San Francisco to pursue ceramics. She has an M.A. from Mills College in California. After graduating, she was fortunate enough to be included in Art Basel at Miami Beach (one of the premier art shows in the Americas), and to a number of shows in galleries on both U.S. coasts and in Europe. She taught Ceramics and Art History at several colleges in the Bay Area before returning to Tucson.

Beth Hopkins
ANT 112 Exploring Non-Western Cultures
Anthropology and Writing Teacher Beth Hopkins prior to joining Pima Community College, taught education classes at Cochise College. She has a B.A. in Anthropology from University of Arizona and an M.A. in Teaching English as a Second Language. Hopkins loves both writing and anthropology and feels that Anthropology 112, which is a writing intensive class, is the perfect fit for her. Besides teaching at Cochise and Pima, Hopkins taught K-8 and gifted classes at various schools around Santa Cruz County.

Brian Nelson
HIS 160 Latin America Before Independence
Brian Nelson started teaching as adjunct faculty for Pima Community College in 1990 and over the years has taught Spanish Conversation, History of Arizona, United States History I and Latin American History for the College. He also taught in Pachuca, Mexico and Santo Domingo, Republica Dominicana. Brian began to work full-time at the College in 1995 and his positions have included: Program Director of the Nogales-Santa Cruz County Education Program; Director of the Post-Degree Teacher Education Program; Director of the Center for Learning and Training; Dean of Instruction-Community Campus acting; and Dean of Workforce Development acting.

Dr. Christopher J. Ozorio
MUS 160 Popular Music in America
Dr. Ozorio has an B.A. in Music, Percussion Performance, from University of Arizona. He received his M.A. in Music, Percussion Performance, from Long Island University and he is currently working on his PhD from Liberty University with the goal of finishing in late summer. He also has completion certificates from the Naval School of Music and The Drummer’s Collective. In addition, Dr. Ozorio has a D2L teach level certification from Pima Community College and is an Associate Member of the National Association for Music Education.

Kenneth Robert Scott
ACC 212 Managerial Accounting
Kenneth Scott has an Associates of Science (AS), accounting from Pima Community College, a Bachelor of Applied Science in accounting from University of Phoenix and a M.S. in accounting from University of Phoenix. He specializes in public accounting, auditing and taxation and has been teaching at Pima Community College for 10 years.
